Magento: Send a test newsletter

Categorized Under: 9 Commented

Send a test newsletter in Magento before bulk emailing it to your subscribers. At a click of the mouse you can see how the new template you just saved will perform before the real sending.

Install through MagentoConnect, get your key in the extension page. Screenshots:

The test allows you to check that all links in the email are functional, the images are loading correctly or detect other small mistakes that might reduce the response rate to your email campaign.

The email will be sent to the email address that you have defined in your admin user account.

When i use the magento connect key
    (magento-community/DC_Newsletter)

it gives the following msg on install:

Failed to download magento-community/DC_Newsletter within preferred state “stable”, latest release is version 0.1.0, stability “beta”, use “channel://connect.magentocommerce.com/community/DC_Newsletter-0.1.0″ to install
    PEAR ERROR: install failed

    Kind regards

You have to set the Preferred state of Magento Connect to “beta”. Switch to the second tab on top and make the change there.

    Dear Adi,

let me first say thanks for this module. It is adds a key functionality to Magento.

We have a problem implementing the module in a store. We have installed the module successfully and it all appears to be fine. BUT since we have installed the AheadWorks Advanced Newsletter module as well, your module doesn’t work properly anymore. When trying to send a test newsletter, we get the following error message:

Could not send email to … (Notice: Undefined index: subscriber in /web/Sites/Buchpark.com/app/code/local/AW/Advancednewsletter/Model/Template.php on line 22)

Do you have any idea how to fix this issue?

    Thanks,

    René

      Hi Rene,
Unfortunately I don’t have a solution for you. The extension from AW is not available for free and I cannot see the code behind to figure out the problem. I am guessing their extension overwrites some of the Magento base code for the newsletters. You might ask the authors to take a look and publish a solution to this problem that I will gladly include in the next release.
