Magento: Send a test newsletter

Categorized Under: 24 Commented

Send a test newsletter in Magento before bulk emailing it to your subscribers. At a click of the mouse you can see how the new template you just saved will perform before the real sending.

Install through MagentoConnect, get your key in the extension page. Screenshots:

The test allows you to check that all links in the email are functional, the images are loading correctly or detect other small mistakes that might reduce the response rate to your email campaign.

The email will be sent to the email address that you have defined in your admin user account.

When i use the magento connect key
    (magento-community/DC_Newsletter)

it gives the following msg on install:

Failed to download magento-community/DC_Newsletter within preferred state “stable”, latest release is version 0.1.0, stability “beta”, use “channel://connect.magentocommerce.com/community/DC_Newsletter-0.1.0″ to install
    PEAR ERROR: install failed

    Kind regards

    Boudewijn

You have to set the Preferred state of Magento Connect to “beta”. Switch to the second tab on top and make the change there.

    Dear Adi,

let me first say thanks for this module. It is adds a key functionality to Magento.

We have a problem implementing the module in a store. We have installed the module successfully and it all appears to be fine. BUT since we have installed the AheadWorks Advanced Newsletter module as well, your module doesn’t work properly anymore. When trying to send a test newsletter, we get the following error message:

Could not send email to … (Notice: Undefined index: subscriber in /web/Sites/Buchpark.com/app/code/local/AW/Advancednewsletter/Model/Template.php on line 22)

Do you have any idea how to fix this issue?

    Thanks,

    René

    • Adi says:

      Hi Rene,
Unfortunately I don’t have a solution for you. The extension from AW is not available for free and I cannot see the code behind to figure out the problem. I am guessing their extension overwrites some of the Magento base code for the newsletters. You might ask the authors to take a look and publish a solution to this problem that I will gladly include in the next release.

    Hi,
I’m using 1.4.1 I’ve installed the extension, flushed cache and logged out/in to the admin. I don’t see the ‘send to admin’ option in the newsletter template admin page. Is there anything else I need to do as this functionality would be very useful.
    Thanks
    Peter

    • Adi says:

Maybe you have some other extension for newsletters which overwrites the core classes. Have you tried on a blank install?

  6. This plugin seems to send the preprocessed template data instead of re-preprocessing the template so you won’t see any of the changes you’ve made in your template, at least not in Magento 1.4.1.1

  7. Veronica says:

    Hello!

Thanks for you extension! I installed it and everything seems fine, but I cannot receive the email. I think that possibily it’s because the sender adress of the newsletter and the admin is the same. Can you tell me where I can change the admin account email?

    Thanks a lot,

    Veronica

  8. Matthew says:

Just installed the module, apparently it installed ok, but doesn’t appear to have added the “send test email” option to the template menu.

it does not process magento widgets and do not see any links in email.

magento 1.4.11 without any 3rd party newsletter modules.

    thanks

    Hello,

I’ve just installed the extension but i get the following error:
Could not send email to jjr1969@… Unable to send mail).

    What’s happening?

  11. Sergio says:

Hi!, just installed the module and appear the “send test newsletter” option, but when I click in this option the mysql go down and damage my cookie, I need to delete the cookie for login again in back office. I was refresh all cache and reloged into magento 1.4.1.1. The extension was installed using magento connect. Any solution? thank you! :)

  12. Gregory says:

I just installed the extension without problem but cannot see “send test” option. I do not have other custom newsletter extensions installed. This seems to be an issue for a number of people but I don’t see any solutions!

does this work on the latest magento release? I’m trying to promote a website.
